An exchange is a central distribution and routing entity or infrastructure whose primary value to a system is that it provides a standard central infrastructure for translating and routing data between entity players. A Securities Exchange provides such a framework for financial transactions, an Internet Exchange does the same for network data and as we develop energy exchanges and health information exchanges, those models must provide the requisite guideline for the infrastructure we build.

There are two contending cloud productivity strategies - An Enterprise Centric Strategy and a Consumer Centric Strategy. One championed by the world's leading enterprise productivity tool vendor, Microsoft and the other by the world's leading consumer software as a service company, Google. Microsoft's product is christened office365 (now in public beta), and Google's product is Google Apps (still adding betas).

Google upgrading Labels in Gmail: Long label names in Gmail - Official Gmail Blog

For users of Google Gmail and more recently Google Docs one of the key nuisance is the absence of Folders . Google tried to solve this problem early on with their implementation of Labels . However for a Microsoft Windows computing world (which is almost all of us), Labels hardly provide a sense of de-cluttering and hierarchical organization of documents and messages that folks have become used to. But with the Creation of Collections in Google Docs and the ability to hide documents from the home page, users can now simulate the Folder feature in Google Docs that they are used to in Microsoft Windows platforms. Also, with a new Feature under the Move to Tab, that allows users to move messages to a Label , and thus remove that message from their inbox view, users can now simulate the Folder feature of Microsoft Outlook and other standard email clients in Gmail. The following video demonstrates these features.

FICA, the Federal Insurance Contribution Act, is a personal insurance investment paid by every working American to help secure a baseline standard of living and access to health care services in their times of need - when they are least able to fend for themselves. True the programs were designed at a different time, when life expectancy was lower, when health care services were much less advanced, and thus cost much less. And even more true, the program has been tapped to fund even those who never contributed to them and in many instances borrowed from by the government in the form of IOUs. But none of these realities change the fundamental rationale for FICA. No wonder FICA is pegged at certain income levels, to make them fair to all.

Oak Ridge National Laboratory currently has over 100 openings in our Postdoc and Post-Master’s Research Associates Program. The Postdoctoral and Post-Master’s Research Associates Program is open to recent Ph.D. and Master’s graduates (within 5 years of graduation) who are interested in gaining experience at a National Laboratory.  Appointments in the program are for 1-year with the possibility of renewal for up to 3 additional years.  Selected individuals receive a competitive salary, relocation assistance, benefits, and if needed immigration work authorization (H1B for themselves and H4 for family members).
