In A Very Liberal Intervention, ROSS DOUTHAT assertions ...
In Iraq, George W. Bush and his gang laid bare what the "conservative" go-it-alone intervention can wrought. It was a bone headed, thoroughly misconceived, strategically incompetent, wealth destroying, scope creeping and bull in a china shop kind of misfortune any sane mind will steer clear off.
Somehow, Douthat, managed to rehash the imagery of the failings of the 1990s with nary a reference to the gory accomplishments of the 2000s. At least in the 1990s, those war ended in less than a decade. On March 17th, Iraq War saw its 8th anniversary, with 50,000 troops still encamped in a conflict that costs over a trillion US dollars, just the American portion of the bill. Afghanistan continues to its 10th anniversary with no clear end in mind.
If conservative clowns can't haver a better argument against the cautious, measured response of a President that would rather protect America from global umbrage, then they should do the world a load of good by writing about Lindy Lohan or even Charlie Sheen.
Because liberal wars depend on constant consensus-building within the (so-called) international community, they tend to be fought by committee, at a glacial pace, and with a caution that shades into tactical incompetence. And because their connection to the national interest is often tangential at best, they’re often fought with one hand behind our back and an eye on the exits, rather than with the full commitment that victory can requireIs another effort in a long list of "conservative" efforts in distortion and mischaracterization of facts and history to suite their preferred vision of what the world is.
