Of Cares, health, a Judge and a President

Today, Chief Judge Robert snuck an hellenic gift into the political landscape of 2012 elections. In a landmark ruling that roiled the right, and will for a few days enliven the left, the Chief Judge dealt the President a sleigh of hands. By taking a tortuous route to claim the central premise of the mandate as a power of congress under commerce law was indeed unconstitutional, but that he will allow the law to stand by making the mandate a tax - he called the President, who had all along claimed this was not a tax, a liar!

For years to come, court watchers, political analysts, and historians will dissect today's ruling and  attribute much of what happens hence to it. If the President looses in November, many will claim the court's hellenic gift played a hand in it "by firing up the Tea-Party base of the Republican Party". If on the other hand the President's campaign is able to get a drove of Democrats and Independents to the poll, by successfully arguing that the law was indeed "the right thing to do", that too will be attributed to the affirmation - and perhaps will change the tenor of the future debate as less of a conspiratorial hellenic gift by a Chief Judge who has shown little regards for the liberal view of the constitution, and by extension the President who embodies all that.

One thing is certain, the last chapter is yet to be written about this case, nor about the two men whose place in history will remain interlinked by today's ruling.
