As politicians would have you believe, every election is a battle for the soul of America, and this one much more so than the last. The truth is that each election is more about the politician and their operatives than about any real interest of the country.
This current election season no less, and the shameful part of all this is Mitt Romney's penchant for lying, and then calling everyone else out on it. Mitt claimed for ages that he ran Bain for 25 years (1977 - 2002), but once there was questions about Bain's practices between 1999 and 2002, Mr. Romney is no longer responsible for Bain as he now remembered he left the company in 1999, even when all records shows he continued to lead the company and get compensated by the same company.
Mitt Romney would have Detroit go bankrupt in 2009, but now claims it was indeed his policies (or a copy of those policies) that saved the US auto industry.
Mitt Romney would have you believe that individuals can do well on their own. Well he needs to move to countries where many American immigrants migrated from. For one, these individuals are smart - at least smart enough to drive American innovation and entrepreneurship. But the United states, with its government, regulations, infrastructure, and access to capital made them the founders of Google, Intel, Yahoo and legions of others. This election is indeed for the soul of America - that America that made the stories of success possible for any one who can dream big and work hard enough. The America that funded the discovery of the Internet and human genome sequencing. The America that funds the SBA and encourages start-up with myriads of support systems and infrastructure.
Sure, the nation has faltered as its policies somehow let "corporations" offshore trillions of dollars in so called tax haven where the money benefits no one but pen pushers, lawyers and accountants and by extension depriving the nation that made those wealth generation possible of the resources it needs to continue to build a future for its children and some security for its elderly. Mr. Romney is a beneficiary of this system, and now he would maintain the status quo to maintain his privilege, event if at the expense of the nation - or especially at the expense of the nation?
