When Democrats and Independents sat out the 2010 election, mostly because many remained disillusioned about the state of the economy, some where unhappy that the newly passed Affordable Care Act did not go far enough, and some just could not be bothered to vote in a non-presidential cycle, they opened the way for a fringe group of self-styled tea-party, who some have credited with racist tendencies, to ascend into the United State Congress, the US Senate and most Governorship and State legislative bodies. In 2010, the extremist seized the reign of government, and nothing has been the same since then.
The first evidence of trouble came in Winter of 2011, when newly "elected" speaker, John Boehner of Ohio quickly turned on his wet mask. The new speaker was showing off his tantrum chops. He has cried in public several times after that, almost at the drop of a hat - but more tellingly, Mr. Boehner's penchant for lack of self control and by extension inability to control his unruly caucus was on display at each turn of his interactions with the President or his Democratic rivals in congress. When Mr. Boehner elected to let his phone-handler inform newly re-elected President Obama on election night that his sleep was more important that a word with the leader of the free world, his sore loosing petulant side was on full display. A few weeks later, Mr. Boehner will go on to demonstrate to the world how clueless and out of control he was when his plan B had to have a plan B - and they were all soon discovered to be plan B to no where. Out of fear of loosing his speakership, Mr. Boehner soon threw the nation under the bus.
In the last 34 month of his speakership, Mr. Boehner has managed to preside over a number of record shattering events in the nation, including a threat of default that led to the nation's first ever bonds downgrade, a record 42 useless symbolic votes on one single item; while many critical issues facing the nation fester, unattended, and the job creation agenda languished, when it is not being actively sabotaged by Mr. Boehner's fellow Republican who would rather see the nation fail than give any impression that Obama may win. The events of the last two weeks have brought all of Mr. Boehner's tantrum to a head - or close to a head. The government has been shutdown for two weeks - second time this has happened in 19 years (note that both cases happened when Republicans in Congress could not get their way with a Democratic President), another default debate is raging (second in two years), with many Republicans gleefully wishing it happened. Yes, we all know the Republican party has become a party of extremist and unruly children, yet who would have thought that this gang will be this petulant? They are bullies who would rather see the nation fail, if they cannot get their way, bullies who will gleefully exact revenge on the nation that dared not to vote for them. And Mr. Boehner is their leader. Only the current bunch in the Republican House could have selected such shrill to a position of national leadership. And Mr. Boehner's tantrum leadership continues.
