Nationality, ethnicity, race -- all are contraptions by people, those whose primary intention is the control of others, often with a goal of self aggrandizement and enrichment. It is founded on the simple principle of divide and conqure.
When you seperate people into us versus them, you create an artificial divide and that divide can be exploited for power. Each group of them needs a champion, a leader to look up to and soon, the divider is the beneficiary of a rigged contraption. For centuries, men have practiced this form of power manipulation with varying success, but more so with certain pain. Wars, exclussion, enslavement, impoverisation, genocide!
Cannibals usually differntiate between those from their tribes and others. They often eat the others, but not their tribesmen.
The next phase in human devolution beyond seperation into us versus them is boundaries, land boundaries. Soon with boundaries, states evolved and now nations. That artificial creation of man to identify a piece of natural resource as his own. Sacred property line that no other can tresspass upon. Even when at some point he had stolen siad land from another, now it's his and he will kill to protect it. And yes, wars have been waged to protect this sacred asset.
Lately we have erected even bigger barrier in the form of anti-migration policy. One that seeks to restrict the ability of people, particularly those seeking better opportunities away from the place of original abode, to move to places of better opportunities. A right that God gave all men -- for those who do belive in God.
Birds move from region to region, based on the time and season of the year. They migrate in search of better living condition, better opportunities. They migrate to find food and warmer land. Fish do the same. Most animals travel accross vast expanse of land in search of better conditions. For centuries, men have too.
But in recent years, we have begaun to place an impossible barrier. One that seek to restrict the nomadic nature of man, in search of better opportunities. It is a false imposition and will not last.
A time will come, not soon enough, when people's movement will encounter far less restrictions. The current situation will ofcourse continue as long as the wide inequality between so called nations is as wide as it currently is. In a world of more evenly spread wealth and prosperity, anti migration sentiments are likely to be less virulent as in the modern world where the gap between the haves and the have nots is as wide as the span of the universe.
So let us commit ourselves to a world without borders, but by first committing ourselves to a world without third world, developing nations, or poor nations. Let us commit ourselves to eradicating poverty from the face of the globe.
