John McCain, Republicans, and a deception...

Debt Ceiling Chess Game : All the pawns are dead

Washington drew very close to a checkmate position last night, when Speaker John Boehner first kept President Barack Obama waiting, and later informed the President that he was walking away from talks. For months, these debt talks have been developing as a classic case of chess with various elements representing chess board elements.

A Plan to eliminate $9 trillion .... Serious?

Oklahoma Republican Senator, Tom Coburn, lived up to his gadfly ratings by proposing a largely symbolic measure to cut the US budget by up to nine trillion dollars over a decade. The most ambitious cut proposed so far as part of the current  debate about Washington's fiscal direction. The proposal seem interesting, if you consider the fact that no other publicly released proposal has identified that much cut over the same period. The problem with Coburn's proposal though remains the same as with all other Republican proposal - It is disproportionately focused on spending cuts. 8 trillion of cuts to 1 trillion of revenue - And the revenue is not even new revenue, it is mostly tax-expenditures.

A Case for Compromise : Shared Sacrifice ...

Mr. President. When you're in a hole. Stop digging!

The biggest problem with this president and the presidency is not just the jobs numbers as the pundits will like to make you believe. It is the increasing perception by the coalition that elected him, that the president is in bed with the same group that screwed the country up. Both on the left, and the right, people believe the administration can not be trusted to truly bring the change it promised. And the president is humoring these belief with his actions. While many on the left, right and center applauded the president's choice of Hillary Clinton, his near mortal challenger in the Democratic primaries, as secretary of state, most were appalled by his choices of personnel for almost all important political office in the land - most were former Clinton aids. It was like Obama decided to give the electorate what it has rejected at the polls - another Clinton Presidency. The President's choice of Rahm Emmanuel, a former Clinton White House aid, Leon Penatta...

Debt Ceiling Talk : A National Game of Chicken

"The wind is blowing, and the chicken's ass is exposed " - so goes an adage. In Washington, the wind is blowing once again, and the GOP is being exposed for what it is - A party more interested in its political future, than in America's success. Since January of 2009, weeks before Barack Obama took office as the first black President of the United States, and only one of few minorities to rise to such a national post in any nation, by through the ballot (France's Sarkorzy is another), the Republican party through its leadership , Rush Limbough, had declared their intention to see the President fail!

Google Voice Help : Where went the quality?

Google Voice was launched with much funfare and pomp a couple of years ago, and I got a line. In time, I encouraged others to do the same, and gradually transitioned a great number of my phone calls ; domestic and international to Google Voice. I also have a Verizon wireless phone. Initialy, all was well. Call quality was mostly clear, at least for all local calls, and international call quality was mostly bearable, or so I thought. The cost per minute for international calls while cheaper than Verizon wireless costs (even with their international plan), it was comparable with many other services including Skype and Net2Phone - two of my other favorites.  On an android phone, Google Voice seems even more appealing, given the deep integration with the phone platform. Well that was the case until I began to hear complaints. People call me and could never get through. And for such calls, I never got any indication of the calls.
